Western Xyntriav Calender

Xyntriav has a few different calendars according to culture, just as Earth does. However, like Earth, Xyntriav has a calendar that is used more often than others and this is the one worth explaining. This calendar is very different; for instance, it is read up to down, rather than left to right. However, it shares some similarities with our own, one being the fact that there are still three hundred sixty-six days in a single leap year. Unfortunately for those born on leap year, that date does not exist in this calendar.

The calendar has ten months:

  1. Alba

  2. Destello

  3. Malla

  4. Sueño

  5. Dêldia

  6. Gratto

  7. Biogon

  8. Crest

  9. Miseria

  10. Zafirô

The months that contain ˆ over a letter are called “Nail Months,” because they contain extra days every other month doesn’t contain. Dêldia has ˆ at the beginning of its name because it is the first Nail Month of the year. Zafirô has one at the end of its name because it is the last Nail Month of the year. The calendar is based on the suns and moon, so the Nail Months were created due to the moon’s biyearly habit of bearing no light for two or three extra days. Besides Dêldia and Zafirô, each month has thirty-six days and nine weeks. Each week has four days.

  1. Sunday

  2. Moonday

  3. Auroday

  4. Newday

Dêldia has thirty-nine days and ten weeks. The last three days of this month create the tenth week which is called “the nail of the month. ”Zafirô has thirty-eight days and ten weeks. The last two days of this month create the tenth week which is called “the nail of the month.”

According to some cultures, such as the culture on Noelle, being born in a Nail Month is fortunate. Being born on a Nail Day is even more fortunate and calls for greater celebration than any regular birthday. In other cultures, such as the culture on Kartika, these fortunes are actually considered unfortunate and people do their best to avoid giving birth on these days.

The most fortunate day to be born (or unfortunate) is the thirty-ninth of Dêldia, since it is the only thirty-ninth day in the calendar. This day, on Earth, would be the second of July.
